Another Florida native wildflower of
exceptional beauty, with petals in one of the prettiest blue color found
in nature.
Description:
Dayflower is a tuberous-rooted
perennial, around 18 inches tall, with magnificent blooms that last only
for a few hours early in the morning (except on cool, cloudy days). Its
leaves are linear and at first sight this plant offers grass-like
appearance (see photo below).
Propagation:
Commelina erecta
can be propagated by division or by seeds. It easily adapts to almost
any conditions in cultivation but in the wild it grows in moist to
very dry, sandy, sunny to partly shaded areas. Will self- sow in the
garden. Photo below: after blooming.
